Two food trucks, both alike in dignity, in fair PNE where we lay our scene, found themselves facing each other down. That's not unusual. But here, the owners of the trucks are brothers—and have found themselves embroiled in a fierce familial competition. In the age-old question of nachos versus pierogies, who will win?

Internationally recognized artist Gu Xiong’s art redefines migration, hybridity and globalization. Becoming showcases pieces from his 50-year career, including Enclosures, not seen since the 1989 China/Avant-Garde Exhibition; the Crushed Cans series, an embodiment of culture shock; and Yellow Cargo, which explores globalization through the lens of migrant workers.

The principal dancer with the National Ballet of Canada might have moved to Toronto from Richmond as a teenager, but she still considers Vancouver home. That's bound to make her performance with Ballet Vancouver all the more special when she takes to the Playhouse stage on September 11 and 12. "I have a lot of loyalty and gratitude for the community that helped bring me to this long and beautiful career,” she tells us. “It’s really nice to be able to come home and perform for that audience.”

Vandelux might have grown up in Vancouver, but the electronic music producer got famous while living half a world away in Luxembourg. “A lot of Canadian artists break in Canada and then try to figure out a strategy on how to get fans outside of the country, where I’ve almost had a bit of the opposite experience,” he reflects, ahead of his biggest-ever Vancouver show tomorrow at Malkin Bowl. "I can’t really believe it’s happening."
