September 12 edition: Finally, the Canucks won something

Plus: Taylor Swift, Dave Grohl, and events for your weekend

Hey there. A belated thank you for all the birthday wishes last week! I ended up not smoking a ton of weed or selling my left kidney for brunch or drowning in a paddleboarding accident, but had a very West Coast night all the same: watching sunset on Kits beach.

My brother gave me an Iain M. Banks tome that’s 700 pages long. Jury’s out on when I might finish (or start) that one.

Circle Craft marks 50 years of supporting Vancouver’s indie artisans

The interior of Circle Craft on Granville Island, showing all kinds of creations on white podiums

Some things are built to last—like Circle Craft. The local co-op has been uplifting BC artists for half a century, starting in Victoria and opening its Vancouver store in 1984. “A co-op isn’t always an easy organization to run,” says chair Corin Flood, “and it has required a great deal of effort and grit on the part of the members to keep it going.” But anything that survives 50 years is clearly working, somehow.
