Lido Pimienta is doing it for herself

“I remember a point when the mainstream artists were the weirdos,” recalls Polaris Prize-winning singer and songwriter Lido Pimienta. “I’ve been waiting for that moment to come back. And I feel like it’s not going to happen.” So instead of trying to become a pop princess, the Colombian Canadian musician has gone her own way—putting art over commerce to make the one-of-a-kind music. And it’s clearly resonating: she’s set to headline the Queen Elizabeth Theatre this weekend.
