The Georgia Straight

Hi there, hope you had a good weekend. Mine consisted of being mostly right about the municipal election, which doesn’t matter to me at all and isn’t something that has gone to my head, so don’t worry about that.

Anyway, dear peasants, please fetch me my slippers so that I may waltz over to my castle and look down upon you simpletons.

I got it out of my system; thank you for letting me do that. I hope you enjoy today’s newsletter.

Can you COPE with it?

Councillor Sean Orr and COPE had a massive election night victory on Saturday as one of Vancouver’s longest-surviving political parties swept to power, electing every one of its candidates across council, school, and parks board. “Vancouver is a progressive city, said Orr in an interview with the Straight on election night. “We’re not a city of Ken Sims and Dallas Brodies. We are a city of progressive values, and people in Vancouver showed up tonight in a big, big way, and I’m so proud of us.”

Our journalism is only possible because of Straight Insiders.

In a time when technology is taking jobs, the Straight remains what it has always been: a small team of scrappy journalists, doing our best to cover the stories that matter to the city we all love.

For just $8.25 per month—the cost of one fancy latte—you can help support the 60-year legacy of the Georgia Straight. In exchange for your hard-earned money, we've got a huge range of deals, discounts, and free tickets up for grabs—but only for Insiders.

Right now that includes free tickets for Amy Miller's Vancouver is Funny show; free tickets to Come From Away at the Arts Club; discounts on drinks at Prophecy and Riley's; special deals at Minami and Pourhouse; and much more besides.
