August 6 edition: Throwback… Tuesday?
Plus: Mural Fest, concert listings, and Zarak’s new resto
Hey there. Happy Tuesday. The first day back after a long weekend feels a bit like wading through mud—especially if you spent the time off having more fun than feels strictly legal.
Stay sunscreened, stay hydrated, and stay tuned to see whether Kits Pool really will re-open tomorrow.

Pop Eye: The PNE Summer Night Concerts deliver one of the world’s greatest drugs
For the PNE, every day is Throwback Thursday. This August, the staple summer concert series is celebrating something as old as human memory itself: nostalgia. For as long as people have been able to compare past to present, they’ve been looking back on their youth with rose-tinted specs—and that’s the exact energy you’ll get when acts like Ludacris, Barenaked Ladies, and John Fogerty take to the Pacific Coliseum Stage.

Johnny Marr & James Live This September
Two of the UK’s most enduring and influential artists are arriving to Vancouver's Queen Elizabeth Theatre on Friday September 20th as part of their upcoming joint headline tour. Johnny Marr is teaming up with fellow Mancunians, the beloved alternative band James, for their first North American tour together. James first toured with Johnny for The Smiths’ Meat Is Murder UK tour in 1985. Since then, both artists have enjoyed international success across four decades of impressive creative output.
Of the tour, Johnny shared "We admired them and even did one of their songs in our set. I’ve been a fan of theirs ever since and being out on tour again after 40 years is a really great thing."
James’ Tim Booth added, "We were met with such generosity and kindness that it changed our DNA. Co-headlining an American tour with the true Gent and genius that is Johnny Marr, is an honour and pleasure. We look forward to making magic together."

Muralist Rashmi Tyagi builds community through colour
Rashmi Tyagi grew up in India’s Doon Valley, in the foothills of the Himalayas. When she moved to Vancouver, the mountainous backdrop made the city immediately feel like home—and she’s been building community through her art ever since. “I wanted it to be a spot where people can come together,” she says of her new mural, Where We Gather, which she’ll be painting as part of this year’s Vancouver Mural Fest.

The folks behind Zarak and La Tana team up for Elem
If you’ve walked down Main Street, you’ll know that award-winning restaurant Zarak Afghan Kitchen used to be next to a couch store. But now, that storefront is being taken over by the same crew—with former La Tana chef Vish Mayekar also joining. Elem is all about embracing the four classical elements. We can’t wait to see what they’re cooking up when the new concept opens later this year.
